Welcome to my office!

There is a huge difference in the availability of wifi across Sydney since I was last here 18 months ago.  Free wifi can now be found in most shopping malls, as well as in a lot of independent cafes.  This makes it feasible to set up "office" anywhere... hence my new "office" in the QVB, one of Sydney's most beautiful Victorian shopping malls!  From here I can check out jobs online at seek.com.au, or check in with individual recruitment agencies and they know I'm not only at the end of the phone, but also available on email.  Picking up emails on my phone is fine, but it's not usually possible to read job specs when they're sent through as they're normally in Word format, so hopping on the iPad at a wifi hotspot is the way to go!

I think this is likely to be my office of choice for the foreseeable future until I find a job as I now have a place to live at Johnston Lodge in Annandale!  I phoned up Friday and they had one studio available, so I viewed it Monday, said I'd take it and move in this Friday!  Not bad to have got that sorted within 5 days of arriving in the country.  I'm lucky that I tripped over this place by accident when I was out here 10 years ago, because it's not easy to find (not online anywhere!) and from the research I've done, it's possibly the only place with short term studios to rent in the city.  So, if you're emigrating or coming out to Sydney on a working holiday and are looking for accommodation that doesn't involve a lot of financial commitment, but is more permanent than a hostel, look up Johnston Lodge in the centre of Annandale on +61 2 9660 7075.  The bond is only $800 and current weekly rental is $250 single, $285 double.  I'm not sure whether it has any wifi onsite, but will post an update once I've moved in.
