Gainfully Employed!!

The early starts are going to be a bit of a shock to the system, I can see, after 8 weeks of being able to get up as and when I feel like it!  In all fairness, I didn't get to bed until the early hours of the morning, so I think it's just going to be a case of having to adjust my inclination to be a bit of a night owl to ensure I get to bed at a reasonable time!

I think if I'm flying regularly I'll need to adjust my nervousness about whether public transport is going to be delayed, etc because I got to the airport and through security an hour before my flight.... definitely not something a regular commuter would do!  So there's half an hour I can add to my sleep time if I can just assure myself that everything will go according to plan!!  Any airline commuters out there who have tips, I'd be really pleased to hear them!

I had some breakfast overlooking the planes taking off on the runway and by the time I boarded, the rain was streaming down the windows.  It was a lovely comfy flight on Virgin Australia, with free tea, coffee and water (beats Easyjet!) and 2 hours later we were landing in beautiful sunshine in Hobart.  Just like Sydney, your final approach is made over water, so you feel like you're about to land in the sea!!  It's a tiny airport, so bags take about 5 mins to come through and then I just had to wait for my pick-up.  It's certainly a lot chillier here than in Sydney (I could see my breath at 9.45am!), but apparently it's still warmer than it will be in Canberra... I wish I'd brought more warm clothes over with me rather than waiting for them to come in my shipment from the UK!

It was straight to the office from the airport, so it wasn't until the evening that I got to see my hotel and check out Hobart central, which it turns out is dead on a Monday night!  I ended up going for food at the Customs House pub which the hotel receptionist had recommended for showing NRL matches.  So I got to see the Bunnies lose narrowly (14-12) to the Sharks, which leaves them just 1 point ahead of Storm at the top of the league.  A friend of mine reckons she can get some free tickets for Saturday's match against the Knights (she has a media pass), so that would be a great one to see if we can.  Fingers crossed they maintain their lead, otherwise if they end up on the same points as the Storm, I think they'll go behind on goal difference.

So everyone at work here in Tassie seems really nice and there appears to be a much better work ethic over here than in UK.  I'm hoping that Canberra won't be too different and if that's the case, I think I've picked a good one and should enjoy my working life down under!
